After 12 years of Labour Government, the country isn’t fairer. Labour continued the Tory light-touch regulation of the City which led to the recession that’s hitting the poorest hardest. Despite this, Labour refuses to give those on lower incomes a better deal.
The Lib Dem-led council has made a good start since 2006: we promised to refurbish Kentish Town Baths – all three pools including the learner pool – and that project is on time and on budget. We’ve frozen council tax for three years out of four and keeping it below inflation throughout, giving people a break in hard times. Plus we’ve started work on the council house repairs that Labour hadn’t delivered.
Locally, Lib Dems have campaigned to protect Little Green Street and save the Torriano pub. We know youth services are important, which is why we pressed the Council to invest £100,000 towards a new youth centre at Kentish Town Community Centre and are working with residents on the Peckwater Estate to see if we can get a new youth centre there too. We’ve also worked with local residents to help bring three new play areas to Kentish Town on the Ingestre Estate, Peckwater Estate and hopefully in Leighton Grove.
Lib Dem activists are often seen out and about across Kentish Town, offering practical help and listening to what residents want. Local people are saying that our approach is refreshing and much-needed.
